hockey

Alex had his first learn to skate practice on Sat. and it was hilarious! I wish I would have brought my video camera. There were 15+ kids floundering out on the ice. So funny! Alex did really good for the first half and then had to go potty and then didn't want to go back out. We finally got him out on the ice again and he took off. He didn't want to leave and couldn't wait to come back. Next time I'll bring my camera (and cappuccino and blanket) and get some good shots.

Jack even said it looked like fun and he would like to skate, so Chad and I took the oldest 2 to the arena for open skate.  They both did great--Alex has improved for this being his fourth time ever on the ice and Jack did awesome for his first time.  He has to do everything perfect on the first try so he's out there trying to race people (including his brother, big surprise) instead of actually learning how to skate. Even when Jack fell down, he would have a smile on his face. I was so proud of him for getting out there and trying something out of his comfort zone.  They both want to go back so I am calling it a success!!

little something

Don't have much to blog about but I have a few photos to share.

Alex has been working on his letter and writing.

Don't ask me what TRON is. He just wanted to practice those certain letters.

I realized I didn't have a picture of all my kids and my grandparents in the same photo, so I snapped a quick pic on our last visit on the farm before the snowbirds flew south.

And for their reward for standing still, they got to do a silly one!

Alex has is first hockey/learn to skate practice this Saturday. I'm excited to see him out there but have absolutely no idea how to get all his gear on! The other families are really helpful so I'm hoping someone will lend a hand.

Jack has been reading a lot lately. They go to the library everyday at school and he chooses "real" books (non-fiction) usually about animals or trucks and tractors and he reads them to me. He is doing so well. I am so proud of him!

Benny is what I call completely potty trained. Well, he has been having accidents off and on at night so we've been dealing with that. He doesn't like pull-ups so I sometimes put him in a cloth trainer overnight, but they aren't waterproof and aren't meant for overnight so we wash sheets a lot. He's wearing undies that the other boys never fit into because they were so big when they trained. Tiny undies are super cute!!

fair and other things

I know this update is long overdue, but here it is nonetheless. The Fair was a couple of weeks ago and I worked the DQ stand again and again the weather SUCKED! It's hard to sell ice cream when I'm sitting with a space heater and a blanket. Dad watched the stand for a few hours on Saturday (the only semi-nice day all week) so Chad and I could take the kids on some rides. Ben was just tall enough to go on the kiddie rides too.

Even though we have a trampoline in our back yard, all the kids begged to go in the bounce house.

They all wanted to go on the "roller coaster" and they ended up in the first car. This is what happened next...

He looked completely terrified. Until he saw some classmates (girls) on the ground. Then he looked like this...

Benny started off good and then ended with his hands over his face. It might have been too much for him but when he got off he said he had fun and had a smile on his face.

Benny has been growing up so fast. I would now consider him potty trained! I gave away the few disposables and sold a bunch of our cloth diapers. I bought some cloth trainers but by the time the last two got here, he was pretty much trained. I cannot believe it happened so fast. It's been almost a month and he has had just a couple of accidents. He is doing incredible! So happy!

Chad applied and had an interview for a job with the county department and everything sounded great. We just found out today he didn't get the job. I am so so so bummed out. This would have gotten him out of the job that he absolutely hates and into a career. Like his mom said, everything happens for a reason so we will be waiting to find out what that reason is.

I had my monthly girls night out last weekend. So fun and so needed. I love that we've kept connected for so long. And I actually found a wine that I can drink! Love love love our girls night out!!!

I hosted a Norwex party (cleaning cloths and environmentally friendly cleaning products) the other week and that was fun! I've never hosted any sort of party before so this was fun and got a lot of the neighbors and other people I know together. Not to mention I got a ton of free products =) The stuff actually works and I can't wait to try some of the stuff I got.

The weather has been super awesome here lately. The last two days it has been 80 or above. I actually hung out the laundry today. In October! That's crazy!

The boys are doing good in school. Jack's reading skills are improving. He took a book home from school and I wanted him to read it to me. He told me he couldn't but we sat down anyway and he read 98% of it all by himself. He was pretty proud. He is such a little man and a little Chad. He wanted to drive the skid steer and feed the pigs by himself. He will be our helper.

Alex has been really aggressive lately especially towards Ben which I don't like. He needs to be kept busy and school is great, I just wish it was more than two days a week. Today we took a really long walk. Chad had Ben in the dump truck hauling rock so it was just him and me which was nice. We just signed him up for hockey and he is so excited. Chad said he saw a woman at the fair with a shirt that said "I don't have a life. My kid's in hockey" or something like that. It's very true. Here, hockey is very heavy with parent involvement. We need to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours or we are charged $10 per hour we don't. Last Friday night we all went and help with rink set-up and between Chad and I we banked 6 hours! The boys played with some other kids, I did some cleaning (wow, is it moldy in there), and Chad helped with installing the coils. Very interesting how the ice is made.

I'm sure there was more to tell but it's getting late and I need to go to bed. Maybe I'll take some pictures tomorrow. Maybe =)

busy bees

It feels like I haven't sat down in days! I have been so super busy getting the house in shape. Lets go back a few weeks first...the boys had their first day of school.
Jack is in First grade this year and has the same teacher he had last year. He was excited about that and him and his cousin are in the same class. So far it's working out good.

Alex is in Pre-Kindergarted and is LOVING it! He gave it a two thumbs up when he got off the bus the first day. He goes two full days a week instead of half-days everyday. Gotta love budget cuts!

This is Jack's first year with homework. He is almost like a different kid since school started. He comes straight home and does his homework. One day he did his homework, cleaned his room, and was super cooperative the rest of the night. School should have started a long time ago!

I am hosting a Norwex cleaning products party here in 2 weeks. My house is in shambles so I have a lot to do. Well I had a lot to do. I've already painted the living room and hallway, put together the Expedit bookcase (or toy storage as it will be used in our house) cleaned the carpet and sorted and cleaned some of the house. Now if it would just stay like this until the party!

before and after

I cut Alex's and Jack's hair the other day and I just have to share. Here is Alex before:

and after:

Holy twins! I now realize I needed to take a picture of both of them for all of you to get the full effect of the twiness. When he turned away from me and ran to the sandbox I almost cried! He looks totally different and way older (and his head looks even more massive, if that's even possible). Part of me wishes I would have waited until after school starts so everyone could see the transformation.

Speaking of school starting, we had the boys' back-to-school night tonight. They both met their teachers: Alex has the same teacher Jack had in Pre-K and Jack has the same teacher he had last year (she moved from Kindergarten to 1st grade) so it went really smooth.

Alex fit right in and went to the rug to play with all the kids. No holding back with him. Jack got to put all his supplies in his very own desk and seemed okay with his room. He is sitting next to a boy who he really doesn't like who has some sort of sensory disorder/issue thing. He is a very naughty boy and stabbed Jack with scissors last year but I think it's what ever he has that makes him that way. Not ADD/ADHD but he's got something where they brush him with different textures throughout the day to help him deal. I'm trying to explain this to Jack so he has a little compassion for him, not just annoyance. It's hard to explain to a kid that not everyone is as "perfect" as he is =)Jack's cousin is also in his class so we just hope that will go well and not have to many interruptions. It should be good. School starts Thursday and I can't WAIT!! Alex will only go 2 full days a week but I'm going to make the most of those two days!

We are fully weaned from the binkys!!! Yay! Ben hasn't asked for one for weeks. Alex this weekend found one and stuck it right into Ben's mouth. I had no idea what was going on but my mom was here and quickly got it away from him and both said no binkys. Nothing more was said about it and I am so pumped it went so much better than I thought it would.

We have also really started working with Ben on using the potty. He has been doing really well. I by no means am thinking he will get it overnight at a little over 2 years old but I will take every pee in the potty over another diaper change. He does really well at home in undies and when he has naked time but we need to work on a solution for out and about. I ordered some cloth diaper fabric to make my own trainers out of little undies. We will see how that works out.

the grain bin

Prepping the site

Unloading the bin

Putting the roof on

Jacks are ready to go

Jacking up the bin to put the third ring on

My dad and Chad putting bolts in holes

All rings on and bolted down

The boys for good measure =)

It took 2 days and five guys to get the bin up. They said if we would have had the company build it for us it would have taken twice as long as it took us. We didn't really have an option--it had to be done in two days...Chad had to go back to work Sunday night.

There is still a lot of work to finish it, but it's up and bolted down which is the hard part that requires much assistance. The boys helped a little but for the most part stayed out of the way. I helped some but most of my participation was to bring meals and snacks.

I'm so glad it's finally up. I just hope we get it finished before we have to put corn in it!
