Not only is it Cinco De Mayo today (tip it!), it is also Mr. Benjamin's 2nd Birthday! We didn't do anything special, just another crazy day. We took a tank of gas down to Gram and Gramp's and they sung to Ben. He didn't quite enjoy it as much as I did but he did get an Oreo :)
We (Chad) helped our brother-in-law with a granite table top and then went out to lunch at DQ. Naps for the boys while I finished the last of the pom poms because I just wanted them done! Cleaned up a bit and Jack came home from school with a few Mothers Day gifts. I'll take a photo later of what he made me. It was perfect!
The rest of the night went as it usually does--play outside (with winter coats and stocking caps. IN. MAY.) dinner and bed. I had a lot more on my list to get done today and it doesn't look like it's going to get done tomorrow either. Aaaaggghhhhh! I need to clone my husband. He is in high demand around these parts. Dave, if you are reading this, I might need a lot of help Saturday! :)
So anyway, Happy Birthday Benny, my beautiful blond little boy. You were born in the water and were my easiest (all natural) labor and delivery by far. That seems to translate into your everyday life. You love the water and are my easiest child right now. It's been a very fast 2 years. Lets slow it down a bit!

inspired by Lori
Just recently, my cousin Lori had a post on her blog about these cute tissue paper pom poms she made for a wedding. We have Benny's Birthday coming up so I thought what a perfect opportunity to try them! I believe they originated from Martha Stewart but there are a bazillion how-to's on the Internet so I Googled me up one of those and ta da!
They aren't perfect but it's all about good enough for who/what it's for around here. I had a minor setback when it came to the selection of tissue paper in our armpit of a town. WalMart only had blue, red, and green so I had to go to Walgreens for yellow and orange. EXCEPT they were .50 more expensive and had 4 fewer sheets per pack. Seriously. Armpit. Of. A. Town.
Anyway, I have a few more to do but am waiting to do them when mom gets here so she can help ;) I have gotten quite a bit accomplished already for the party including mowing the lawn this morning. It is starting to look like summer now with the fresh-cut lawn. Notice how I said "look" and not "feel". We had flurries yesterday morning. FLURRIES! IN MAY! I really do believe that Wisconsin is the only state where you fully get to experience all four seasons. You just don't know in what order you will get them.

tiny slice of happy
I have finally ordered a new laptop and should be arriving early next week. Hooray! I am so excited to get caught up on the Shaytards, you have no idea!
Ben turns 2 on the fifth and we are having his Birthday party on Sunday (which is also Mothers Day) so I have to kick it into high gear around here to get the place ready. No sense doing major cleaning until the day or two before because with these three Tasmanian devils nothing stays clean and neat for long. Mom and Dave are coming on Saturday so hopefully she can make the long ride with little discomfort. Cross fingers!
We are calving like crazy here now. Just yesterday we had 6. Chad is still up doing chores and checking on the cows so we will see when he comes down how many more (if any) we have today. The boys are getting quite the lessons being around the cows. There was afterbirth laying on the ground and they wondered what it was. So we explained about the placenta and the sac that the baby grew in. Luckily that's as far as their curiosity went, but Jack did tell his teacher about the cow placenta and they discussed as a class all about it! We were very surprised we did not receive a phone call from his teacher.
I gave Ben a hair cut and I think it is a smidge too short, but he still looks handsome. What do you think?

hi
So my laptop has yet another virus (I am getting so pissed off!!!) so no photos, sorry. I am lucky that I have a new-to-us PC that is working so we at least can get on the internet and keep up with bills and so forth. The PC has no sound card so I have been without my YouTube subscriptions for days and I'm going nuts! Lame, I know but it's all I have :)
Lets see if I can remember all the things I was going to tell you all about....
Jack had his spring concert at school a couple of weeks ago. That was the most interesting one I've been to. One of the kids at the very top of the risers started puking in the middle of a song..side note: people, teach your kids to puke into their hands or shirt if no other acceptable recepticle is near by. He just let it fly and I swear it had to hit the kid in front of him. YUCK!! Then, after being in the gym for a little dancing, we were supposed to go to the music room but a parent had a seisure and we all ended up back in the gym for the rest of the time. The parent is fine (I'm pretty sure--haven't heard otherwise) but that sure was one wierd concert.
We just had a major snowstorm here this last week which resulted in schools getting out early the other day. Snow plows were out and everything. Uggghhhh!!! Soooo sick of snow. Our daphadils are covered in snow! I've always heard if you don't like the weather in Wisconsin, wait 5 minutes. So true!
With all the heavy snow we got, the roof of our machine shed fell in. No one was hurt and all of the machinery that was in there is fine. The building itself is very old and we knew it was a matter of time but didn't really think the snow in April would have done it in. Just waiting for the adjuster to come next week and then we can tear it down.
The whole family went bowling tonight since Jack has no school tomorrow and Chad is off of work until May 1st. It went really well and we bowled 2 games. With a family of 5 it sure takes a while to bowl one game. We ended up grabbing a pizza there and went to DQ for ice cream on the way home. A really fun spur of the moment night. If we would have planned it, it never would have turned out as nice as it did.
I got a hair cut today and a new nail polish which I am very excited to use. Nice to feel semi human and not a booger-covered mommy :) What I would really like is a manicure. My nails have been horrible lately and that would be awesome but I think I'll have to settle with my new polish and do it myself.
I've been taking classes two times a week at the hospital again. Monday is kick boxing and Wednesday is turbo kick. I've actually gained a pound or two since I started which is so not cool but I will finish out the six weeks and we will see where I sit at that point. I don't have time anyway after the six weeks to take it again with all the running this summer with the boys.
Both Alex and Jack are signed up for Park and Rec and we will get them into swimming lessons as well. Alex is doing T-ball and soccer and Jack is doing soccer and golf. Lots of running but it will be fun and they are both excited for it to start.
I think that's all I can remeber right now. We have Benny's 2nd birthday coming up so I have to start planning for that. It won't be half as nicely decorated as Lori's parties but as long as we have cake, everything's good ;)

this is what people without kids miss out on
Sunday was supposed to be a great, well-planned out day.
The boys had sunday school and Jack was to sing at the 11 o'clock service. We went to church and the boys did as well as can be expected (did we hear a word of the sermon? No. Never do when the boys are with). Jack got up with his class and sang two songs and did fantastic. He really had an issue at Christmas time not wanting to get up in front of people and refused to participate. We told him the day before that his class was singing and he said he wanted to look spiffy so he picked out a really nice button up shirt and belt with jeans. He looked soooooo handsome!
Anyway, he sang and did great and we got through the rest of the service fairly well. Mom told me to tape it and I did bring the camera, but he looked a bit nervous so I didn't want to upset or embarrass him so I left the camera in the bag. Our plan was to head up to LaCrosse to do some shopping so we grabbed some drive-thru and headed strait up.
Menards was our first stop. Right when we got there Jack said there was something in his ear. I said I would check it out when we got home because I didn't have any Q-tips with me. Within 20-30 minutes he is crying and grabbing his ear saying it really hurts. Great. So much for the rest of the shopping trip. Off to urgant care.
We were fourth in line to be seen. Jack sat with us while Alex and Ben were making little sick friends all over the place. They would run over and look at the fish and run back. It was kind of nice to keep them entertained while we waited.
Chad asked Jack if his tummy hurt. He nodded yes and then BLAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHH! Really? Great. He didn't want to take his jacket off earlier so his hat, coat, pants, shirt, everything but his shoes were covered. Of course there were no garbage cans near by so we grabbed his hat to catch the rest of it but that was pretty pointless at that point. Of course he hosed the waiting room chair as well. Makes you think twice about sitting in a waiting room chair now!
He got right in to be seen after that and the doc came and said he had ear infection and thought the pain made him get sick. But after getting new clothes on, some Tylenol and a sticker he made a dash back into the room to yack in the garbage can. Oh, and durring all this, we had the other two kids to keep track of and out of the puke and off of the clinic floor.
At this point, we scrapped our Target and Hancock fabric run but thought I could still run in quick at the grocery store. Jack said he wanted to go home so we scrapped that too. After a quick stop at Walgreens for meds and Target for a DVD for them to watch, we headed home. We get down the road a little and Jack chucked again. Luckilly the nurses gave us several of thoes blue puke ring bag things to take home with us.
I really wanted something to eat on the way out of town, but Jack said the smell might bother him so we just skipped it. After we got back into town we needed to stop and get some milk and Jack got sick again. Once we got home and settled he didn't get sick anymore and went to bed early. I got everyone else in bed and fell asleep myself on the couch.
Jack was fine this morning so he went to school and my house looks like a bomb went off so that's my plan today is to get things cleaned up, restock the emergency diaper bag for the van and do some laundry.
See--people without kids just don't get to have this kind of fun!

holy crap, I'm 30!
Yes, it's true--I am finally 30. Ugghh! So far 30 feels like crap since I've had a cold since last Monday and it just won't go away.
My actual birthday was uneventful. Chad had to work that night and Jack had off school so I spent the day trying to keep the kids quiet so Chad could sleep, dishes, laundry. The norm. My dad took the older two boys to look for shed antlers for a few hours so that was a nice break. I had a lot of Happy Birthday phone calls and of course the customary Happy Birthday song from Gram and Gramp. Loved it! Gram asked if I had a cake. Nope. She asked if someone was cooking me a nice dinner. Nope. Chad suggested pizza so after we signed our tax return we stopped and picked up our over baked cheese pizza. Yum!
Saturday Chad and I got to spend the day shopping like I wanted. My mom and Dave came over to watch the kiddos for us. We picked up some stuff and had a good day. One of our neighbors and friends is in the hospital with a pretty serious disease so we visited him for a while.
We were still full from lunch so we scrapped the nice sit-down dinner (it really would have been a waste--we weren't hungry at all) and stopped at Taco Bell on our way out of town. Nothing but the best for us!! We were supposed to be meeting a couple of friends of ours for drinks so I knew I needed to eat something.
We stopped to get gas once we got back into town and Chad called Chris (one of the friends we were meeting) and told him we were at the gas station and would be there soon. Thought that was a little strange since that was some super short notice to meet us. We parked next to our old neighbors car (another hint) and Chad wouldn't let me pee before walking into the bar. SURPRISE!!! Bar full of people I know!! That was very sweet of him for planning that! He's lucky I was actually feeling better that day because the day before I wouldn't have gone I felt so bad.
I ended up having a great time. I got to see a few of my good friends from high school that I was hoping would be there. My parents were there, step parents were there, my kids were there, Chad's aunt and uncle were there, his sister and cousins were there and more friends that we both have were there. It turned out to be a super fun night and I still have no voice left!!
Here's to being 30, flirty, and fabulous!!! (Gold star for anyone who knows where that is from)

6
Six years ago today at 6:51pm Jackson David was born. I can not believe it has been six whole years already. He had an awesome day today. Woke up great, had his customary waffle for breakfast, and was super excited to get off to school.
Grampa Ole brought Dilly Bars for Jack to take for snack time and he got a birthday crown to wear all day. They sung to him and he got a neat birthday bag from his teacher.
When he got home he spent a lot of time outside, which he loves to do even when it's colder than a witches boob out there! He and his brother did chores (play in the snow) with their dad and got out of my hair for a bit :)
Jack got to pick his birthday dinner so we had cheese ravioli and a dum dum sucker for dessert. We packed his treat bags for his birthday party this weekend and did a little "kitchen dancing".
All in all a really good day. Happy birthday big man. Love you!
